Double faced tape is a very useful material widely available on the market. With most other kinds of adhesive tape, the bonding agent is applied to one side only. For example, regular tape may be used to wrap gifts, leaving an unsightly appearance showing on the exterior of the gift, which a number of people believe to be unattractive. Differentiating itself, double sided tape has glue on both sides, which enables people to invisibly join two things together. Though in some cases this may not be required as sometimes adhesive on the other side of the material may provide more difficulties than benefits; for example when one side is exposed it may attach to unintended objects. In such cases single sided versions may be more appropriate for some tasks.

When positioned between the layers of paper that are required to be sealed, an ideal stylish gift wrapping may take place. Another constructive application of double faced tape is found in the craft projects where it may be used to replace glue when sticking two things together. They are also used to place artwork on boards, and indeed, many people use it to make scrapbooks.

For art projects that require extraordinary care, one can get a low acid version of double faced tape from an art supply outlet or from the Internet, while other forms are utilized for sticking fabrics or even for construction purposes. However, in supermarkets one can usually only obtain the most ordinary double sided tapes which are meant to be used in the home.

There are a few strange and unusual utilizations for double sided tape. Specific kinds examples may be used to hold the latex cups in bras in place. Physicians may use them for the positioning of certain kinds of medical devices such as tracheotomy tubes. Double faced tape has many applications in the construction and reconstruction of the house; attachment of plastic sheeting is one such application. In some cases people may not want to permanently fix two objects together; for example temporarily sealing broken tools which have slipped parts that may otherwise potentially risk injury.

Generally however, double sided tape is more efficient when used to attach items like cardboard and paper as well as materials of arts and crafts reducing visibility of the sealing agent on the finished product, remaining between the layers, rather than on the surface of them. This makes for beautiful neat projects and the best workmanship.

Moreover, double faced tape may be used for clothing that is in imminent danger of falling apart, such as loose skirts and strapless dresses as a temporary fix for fallen edges and other flaws of clothing. Two-sided tape is made in such a way that if one removes it, it will not leave any gum behind. They are made by applying a thin layer of adhesive to each side of the material.
